FLIGHTS

We use Qatar Airways, KLM, Turkish Airlines, Edelveis and Ethiopian Airways regularly to fly to Tanzania. We recommend an international flight directly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO). Our partner hotels are just a 40 minutes drive from the airport.

If, for any reason, we cannot fly to Kilimanjaro Airport internationally, then we will fly into Zanzibar (ZNZ) or Dar es Salaam (DAR) and then reach Kilimanjaro by local Tanzanian airlines.

VACCINATIONS

There are no mandatory vaccinations for entering Tanzania. The only case that can sometimes be an exception is vaccination against yellow fever. A certificate of vaccination against yellow fever may be required to enter Tanzania if you are coming after a stay in one of the countries with risk of yellow fever transmission (e.g. Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda). You can find a full list of these countries on the website of the International Association for Medical Assistance to Travellers. If you just plan to have a short (less than 12 hours) layover between flights in one of them without leaving the airport, the certificate will not be necessary.

Those arriving from the Russian Federation, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Belarus, the USA or the countries of the European Union have no vaccine requirements.

EQUIPMENT

Since the trail to the top passes through five different climatic zones - from the rainforest at the beginning to the glaciers at the summit - you should bring gear for a variety of weather conditions. A complete list of required gear can be found here. XXXXXX

If you do not have the needed clothes, shoes, trekking poles, a sleeping bag or any other items from the list, you can always rent the missing equipment from us upon arrival. We only use quality gear from The North Face, Black Diamond, Red Fox and Mountain Hardwear.

SAFETY

With the appropriate preparation, the right choice of tour operator and a climbing route suited to your level, Mount Kilimanjaro is one of the safest climbs in the world! Almost all accidents on Kilimanjaro - about 10-15 a year per 50,000 climbers - are the fault of the host company. Accidents occur because of inadequate qualifications, pushing the ‘envelope’ and inexperienced guides not able to identify early onset altitude sickness signs and symptoms. Addressing these risks is quite simple - choose a reliable expedition team leader with a good reputation and double check that your guide conducts regular medical checks throughout the climb. And finally, check the company's KPAP membership.

 

GPS-tracking online

All our expeditions are equipped with a GPS tracker so that your friends and family can follow the progress of your ascent. You’ll receive a link to the GPS tracker of your group shortly before you head for Kilimanjaro. This way those who worry about you back home can check your location on Kilimanjaro in real time.

Our rental shop is regularly resupplied with new gear shipped directly from the USA for all our guests to feel simply spick-and-span on the adventure of their lifetime. Hiring our gear for the time of the expedition is the best solution if Kilimanjaro is your first big summit and you’re not yet sure you want to invest a small fortune in all the required items of the same quality.

 

Oximeters on every expedition

Even though the majority of participants on our climbs successfully reach the summit without resorting to oxygen systems, every expedition is supplied with oxygen in case clients need help adapting to the altitude. Besides cylinders, masks and regulators included in the tour price, we allow for the possible necessity of oxygen resupply - if needed, emergency porters can deliver new tanks up the mountain to your camp.

Helicopter search and rescue service

Kilimanjaro is one of the safest mountains for hiking on Earth. However, in the event of emergency, we will soon need only 40 minutes to deliver those in need of help from Kilimanjaro to the hospital. How? - Quadrant Travel partners local suppliers who bring its own helicopter and flight crew ready to conduct emergency evacuations. KCMC Hospital, among the top three in Tanzania, has two designated VIP rooms with personal medical staff for clients of Quadrant Travel. In September 2022 the service will go live.

 

Medical checks - twice a day

Before the climb, you will fill out a medical clearance form for the crew to assess your general physical condition. When the expedition begins, you will go through two mandatory health checks performed by our trained guides in the morning and in the evening. Throughout the climb, the guides will keep a medical record for each climber to be able to follow the development of your state. A medical examination is mandatory for both the expedition members and the Quadrant climbing crew. Regular health checks can help detect the onset of altitude sickness and prevent its further development. This is one of the reasons why many climbers choose us.

 

WFR-ceritfied local mountain guides

The expeditions of Quadrant Travel are led by experienced guides. All have Wilderness First Responder certifications. Every year we invite mountain professionals from the USA and Europe to come to Tanzania and run safety workshops for our climbing teams. Here at Quadrant we are confident in our guides’ ability to act right in the most unexpected scenarios on Kilimanjaro.
